Prop 8

November 10, 2008

When Prop 8; received such a terrible response I was taken back a bit, as so many have taken advatage of the law in the state of California like Ellen Degeneres and Melissa Etheridge to name of few of whom I admire greatly as talented women. Prop 8; displayed the same type of mentality of hate and discrimination that has always hurt the form of true unity in our country.

As a Native person I am certainly glad we have our own ceremonies and ways that we can still practice, such as Two-Spirit marriage and not have to worrie if "law" recognizes this as a legal thing or not. People are human beings first. Whoever one loves is between the two people in question. Why strangers would try to stop such a union is beyond me, where's the equality in that?

Prop 8, regardless of how it turns out is definitely something that upsets the LGBT community and if it upsets them it upsets me. It would appear that we are experiencing the one step forward and two steps back syndrome and it's much like the progress of a turtle or snail. Live and let live people, I'm not concerned about who you marry so why then be concerned about people you dont even know?

The LGBT community for the most part is a category of the most fun loving and sweet and generous people, and until the people with quarrelsome thoughts learn to calm their minds they will never hear the world outside.

The Black Eagle

October 22, 2008

Some months ago Mr.Obama stopped by my western cousins The Crow Nation Indian reservation. From what I had seen and heard convinced me to put some faith in this Presidential hopeful. I was very pleased with what I heard and truly touched, so much so that even the Crow adopted him and gave him an Indian name of The Black Eagle. Thus far he has a very good following with most Native American tribes.

I myself have put faith in Mr. Obama not only for his veiws on Native American issues but for the LGBT community as well. I have never really been interested in politics or White House affairs until he came along. I saw things as a stacked deck type of govenment issues. It's about time the Native American & LGBT communities got some support and understanding from a Presidential Elect.

In retrospect, Mr.Clinton made some very deep promises that were not kept concerning Native Americans, I certainly hope that Mr. Obama will rectify these situations to better unsettled matters concerning Native Americans. He has my full support for his endeavors. I believe that the LGBT community can also greatly benefit from what Mr. Obama professes and I'm certainly glad to see these things take place in my lifetime.

Self Defense

October 6, 2008

As a result of my assault I have found that we should not be so prone to attacks from such individuals. When we can, I strongly feel that we " Survivors" of the LGBT community especially TG /TS individuals should learn to take some measures of self defense, be it mace, pepper spray or at least some form of self defense techniqe. TG & TS individuals should not be without some form of self defense when it comes to protecting themselves.

This is a very serious matter. I would hope that my TG /TS sisters and brothers take heed. After my incident I promised myself to never let that happen to me again. Never! I have sought out a most effective martial art called wing chung gung fu, a southern style founded by a woman.
Lee Jun Fan, once said that, "Training is one of the most neglected phases of athletics, too much time is given to the development of the skill and too little for the individual for participation."

With this quote in mind this brings me to health & fitness for the TG/TS individual. I truly believe it is essential if one wishes to take up self defense to help them from becoming a victim of a hate crime. Why should we just let them take our lives? The fact that hate crimes are on the rise only heightens the urgency to do something about it.

I must plead that as TG /TS individuals we need to something for our own personal safety. Sometimes we dont have the option to call for help and in those situations we need to try to be more prepared so we don't face harm. I realize this may not seem ladylike to many people, but it's about staying safe in your own life.
