Enough With The Gay Marriage Polls

By Meghan Chavalier

May 5, 2009

I am so sick and tired of seeing polls about agreeing or disagreeing with gay marriage. It shouldn't matter at all if you do or you don't. This is a matter of equal rights for all Americans and gay marriage falls under that category.

I don't agree that some people should be allowed to marry five or six times, or have children when they can't take care of them. Where's that poll? Where's the poll to ask gay people if they think heterosexuals should be allowed to get married five or six times?

It's ridiculous. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, because it needs to be repeated over and over again. Marriage is nothing more than a legal contract between two people and in the United States of America anyone can enter into a legal contract with another person, therefore gay marriage shouldn't even be an issue. It's legal.

Where are all the good lawyers when you need them? They should know this. I'm not a lawyer and I know this.

When it comes to the issue of gay marriage, it's become a media circus and there is no ringleader.

It's time for our government to stop using religion as the answer to everything gay. Religion should play no part in the issue of gay marriage. Religion is nothing more than a personal belief. If you believe in God, great, if you don't, great. It's your belief, so keep it in your home where it belongs.

If you really sit and read the news, or watch the news, you'll start to notice the "distraction" stories. Who's worried about the economy this week, when we have Swine Flu knocking at our back door? Please, wake up America. We are really starting to show some major flaws in the intelligence department.

Should it matter that someone disagrees with gay marriage? Absolutely not. They're entitled to their opinion, but that's all it is, is an opinion.

The so-called "religious" people who disagree with everything, are what's hurting this country the most. These are the people who go to church every Sunday and think that just because they get down on their knees and pray to God it's okay to hate people for being different than them. They need to pray to God, to knock some sense into their thick skulls.

Gay marriage will eventually be recognized in all 50 states. You can't stop progress, and this year has seen very steady progression when it comes to gay marriage. But, it leaves me to wonder. What will our country come up with next when it comes to gay rights? Do religious heterosexuals really have nothing better to do than wonder what their gay neighbors are up to? Maybe they should start worrying about what's going on in their own homes, considering the divorce rates in this country are off the charts.
