Maine Voters Prove Homophobia Is Alive And Well

Homophobia: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality

Now that you know the meaning of the word, what can be done about it?

I am writing this article tonight out of shear frustration of what just happened in Maine. Once again we have taken the issue of gay marriage and placed it in the voter's hands, most of whom are heterosexual and homophobic. This seems fair doesn't it? I mean, remember the last time you went to the polls and got to vote on heterosexual marriage? Oh, you don't? That's because it's never been an issue and it's never happened.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again, so listen closely I'm not going to repeat myself anymore, "Straight voters should not be voting on Gay issues." Gay marriage is a gay issue, not a straight issue. Who we choose to spend the rest of our lives with is our own business. I don't need Tom and Shirley America voting on who I choose to spend the rest of my life with. They need to stop concerning themselves with what's happening in my home and start worrying about what's happening in their own home. If they did, perhaps the divorce rate would drop in this country and we might not have so many messed up kids running the streets.

I am so disgusted with the United States of America right now. When I was a child all I ever heard was America is the Land of the Free. Are you kidding me? Land of the free? "We the people"...should be changed to "Some people."

I find it disheartening that just a few days ago the LGBT Community was added to the Federal Hate Crimes Act. Well, what the laws of this country are doing to our community should be a federal hate crime in itself.

When you vote against gay marriage, you might as well just stand up and admit that you're homophobic. It has nothing to do with religion and the Bible. You're just trying to cover your hatred up with religion. Get down on your knees and pray, because when your day comes and you're judged, the first thing on the list will be your hatred for people. To me, it sounds like a one-way ticket to Hell, but I'm not God and don't speak for Him/Her, unlike so many others in this country seem to do.

Quit using religion as a basis to hate certain people. Quit being so damn ignorant. You can hide behind the curtain in the voter's booth all you want, but your obvious hatred towards people will always be visible to those who actually care about other people. You're not fooling anyone, anyone at all so don't think you are.

I just sit here writing and wonder what kind of people can hate someone so much that it consumes them. I wonder what these people could actually accomplish if they would learn to open their hearts and their minds. Is it possible to change the minds of so many? I don't know. I wish I had the answers but I don't. I find it impossible to believe that there are so many ignorant people actually roaming around in the world, but there are. Ignorance is at an all time high, while intelligence has obviously taken a back seat.

So, in closing...to the voters in Maine who voted against gay marriage, you should be ashamed of yourselves this evening, very ashamed. You have openly admitted that you're a homophobe...Congratulations. Now go to Church and pray, because you obviously have no idea what the word love even means.
