The Gay Marriage Debate

March 9, 2009

Marriage. Marriage is a contractual relationship
recognized by law. The key word here is "contractual."
Marriage is a legal contract between two people whether it
be a man and a woman, a man and a man or a woman and a woman.
The only difference in this scenario is that only one of these
three is recognized to be legal in the United States of America
even though legally any American can have a contract with
another American.
This is where the Gay Marriage Debate begins.
The religious right are fanatical about convincing other Americans
that legally gay people shouldn't be able to marry. But, legally
we should be able to marry because marriage is a legal contract
between two people. I don't know how many times I need to
write this before our government realizes that gay people
have every legal right to marry their partners just as heterosexuals,
BY LAW. Got that?
The mere idea that gay people should even
have to fight for the right to marry each other is ridiculous.
Legally we have the right to enter into a legal contract with
any person we choose to, and marriage falls under that category.
What we should do is make it illegal to divorce in this country.
That would send heterosexuals into a frenzy wouldn't it? It's
just down right stupid that some people are able to marry
8 or 9 times in this country, and gay people aren't legally
allowed to do it even once. This makes absolutely no sense
whatsoever and if you think it does, you're visiting the wrong
website.
In the year 2009 it's hard to believe that
gay people have to fight for equal rights. Equal rights shouldn't
even come into question in these United States Of America,
they are rights that we are given from birth according to
the Constitution of the United States, but, for some reason
the religious fanatics of our country have taken over our
government and gay people aren't afforded the same rights
as every other tax paying American citizen.
The Vatican is always spewing something about
the gay community. I'm sorry, but The Pope lives way across
the pond, so why does he have such a stronghold on our government?
I think the Vatican needs to start worrying about all of their
own problems, and trust me, they have many.
Religion should hold no basis in the daily
goings on in our government. Religion should have nothing
to do with any legal wranglings. Religion is a personal belief
and nothing more.
I will end with this and reiterate it once
more. Marriage is a legal contract between two people. Got
that?
